It all started over three years ago with my mom. To be blunt: she isn’t exactly the most coordinated person. Watching her attempt a high kick or, heaven forbid, the splits is... an experience. In most places, being the "lowest belt" who struggles would earn you some major eye-rolls. But at Thousand Waves, she found a community that actually smiled and cheered her on.
She loved it so much she staged an intervention for me to try it. After one class, I was a hard "no thanks," but she bargained me into a two-month trial. I was 100% sure I'd hate it... but let’s face it, for once, she was actually right. (Ugh, don't let it go to her head.)
Starting karate was terrifying. I was one of only three white belts in the room, surrounded by people who knew way more than me. But the teachers were patient, the higher belts were kind, and before I knew it, I wasn’t just learning katas, I was making amazing friends who support me even when I’m having a "not-my-best" day.
Thousand Waves isn't just a gym; it’s our dojo. It’s a place where even "unskilled" people (sorry, Mom!) can thrive.
For 40 years, they’ve been breaking down barriers through self-defense and adapted programs. They’ve changed thousands of lives, now it's your turn to help us keep that magic going.
