At the start of 2017 I chose to become the coordinator of the Adapted Seido Karate (ASK) program at Thousand Waves. With the support of experienced teachers and volunteers like Sensei Tom West and Denise Coleman, I am able to continue this program's work of providing karate training for students with disabilities from the Rehab Institute of Chicago (RIC)'s Caring for Kids program. We teach karate to children and young adults with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, TBI, autism, and others. The common thread that they all share is a love of karate, and I can't continue this work without the funds raised from Spirit Challenge.
