More than ever, we need the peaceful warriors who train at Thousand Waves.

The ones who have faced into their fears, and learned to say "no" to harassment and hate. The ones who have honed their fighting skills, while hoping never to have to use them. The ones who are prepared to step up, in whatever way is necessary to stop violence.

I am one of those peaceful warriors. For almost 14 years I have practiced Seido karate as part of the Thousand Waves community. And each year, with an enormous sense of gratitude, I fundraise for this mission-driven non-profit that fosters fitness, healing, empowerment, and peacemaking.

Spirit Challenge Fundraiser supports Thousand Waves' work in three critical areas:

  • Scholarships, which provide funding for children and adults who wouldn't otherwise be able to study karate or self-defense.
  • Adapted Seido Karate (ASK), a partnership with RIC that provides karate for youth with disabilities.
  • Self-Defense/Violence Prevention, which provides Self-defense and Bystander Intervention workshops and courses all over the city.

Thousand Waves' name comes from the Japanese saying, "One wave sets thousands in motion." Just one donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Thousand Waves. Thank you for your support!
