Thank you for helping us fulfill our mission to foster fitness, healing, empowerment and peacemaking!
I’m super excited to celebrate Thousand Waves’ 40th Anniversary this June and to double down with my support in our annual Spirit Challenge Fundraiser! Any amount donated makes a huge difference.
I’m in my 16th year at Thousand Waves where, in addition to traditional Seido karate, we run an Adapted Seido Karate (ASK) program for students with physical disabilities; in fact, just a month ago, we awarded our first Black Belt to one of our ASK students - what a thrill! In addition, we bring Empowerment Self Defense to at-risk communities in the Chicago area teaching physical self defense skills and, more importantly, boundary setting and de-escalation techniques to prevent violence in the first place. Critical skills in today’s world of heightened biases and intolerance. As a non-profit, we depend largely on in-kind donations to keep these programs running and to ensure that no student is deprived of the opportunity to train, regardless of their financial capacity.
