Help me raise $4000 in dedication of the 40th Anniversary of Thousand Waves!
1985 brings back a lot of strong memories for me. My year abroad in France changed my life: I perfected my French, made friends with people from all over, and then met Dani and started learning Italian in earnest. The transition from my amazing year in Europe to my last year at the University of Illinois was very hard for me. Had I discovered Thousand Waves (then called The Woman’s Gym) that year, I think it would have helped me quite a bit. Maybe I wouldn’t have dropped out of school due to a mental illness breakdown. But, c’est la vie!
When I did find Thousand Waves in 2008, I was very happy to become a member and immediately become a volunteer in support of TW’s mission of fostering fitness, healing, empowerment and peacemaking through violence prevention, self-defense and traditional martial arts programs for all!
But what has really stood out over the years is the sense of community at Thousand Waves. This is not just a place to come in, work out, and leave. I feel not only welcomed, but seen and valued for who I am. Being a member of the Thousand Waves community gives me the opportunity to not only find a safe space for myself but also to be part of a community of people working to make the world a better place.
Thank you for helping us fulfill our mission to foster fitness, healing, empowerment and peacemaking!
Your donation will support all of our not-for-profit work, including scholarships, empowerment self-defense programs, and our Adapted Seido Karate Program for children with disabilities.
