Thank you for supporting Thousand Waves' mission to foster fitness, healing, empowerment and peacemaking.
Aileen: I started training at Thousand Waves in January of 2000, on a gift certificate. I was a new teacher, buried in student loans, not making "my age," and I was privileged to do work study for my first two years of training before I was able to start paying for classes. Since then, I have volunteered in all of the various programs Thousand Waves has offered. Some of the most rewarding have included being involved in self-defense programs at a wide variety of service agencies around the city. Thousand Waves is a second home to me, and I want to make sure that we continue to serve everyone regardless of ability to pay. Osu!
Gabe: Since I started karate when I was 5, it has made me calmer. It helps me face my fears, like when I competed in the tournament. The Code of Ethics helps me remember to keep trying when things are hard, and to work to build a strong body and a kind heart. It's fun! I want all kids to have a chance to train at Thousand Waves! Osu!
